The 49 mile drive was created in 1938 to highlight the city’s beauty while they were here for the Golden Gate International Exposition from 1939-1940. You will see this sign as you move around the city. At some point you will be on the 49 mile drive.
Over the years, the route has changed many times. Today, the route starts at City Hall and takes you along many of San Francisco’s historic and iconic landmarks. If you do the drive from start to finish with just a few stops, it will most likely take you three to four hours to complete the drive.
Often couples would like to stop around the city for photos, here are some suggestions for photography. Keeping in mind traffic if can difficult to go from one end to the other and back around. To avoid going in every direction here are some suggestions that have a flow. Depending on the time of day you are going to be out.
These three destinations will take about two to three hours to complete in a limo. More time if you are planning are doing the parking yourself. It just depends on the about of people around and the weather conditions.
- Start a the Golden Gate Parks, Japanese Tea Garden it is beautiful for photography any time of year. 30 minute stop
- Next stop is about 20 minutes away. The Palace of Fine Arts built for the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition. It has been restored to its original glory. 20 minute stop.
- Just 10 minutes away is The Marina Green and Crissy Fields which are along the water and provide bay views with the Golden Gate Bridge in the back drop. 20 minute stop.
- If you want more head downtown to the Ferry building our oldest landmark with the clock tower it makes a timely image. About 25 minutes away. Plan a 20 minute stop.
- Yerba Buena Gardens district includes Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial is a beautiful area for photography which is about 15 minutes away. Plan a 20 minute stop.
A wedding limo will run between $65 to $145 an hour depending on the limo you select. Most have a four-hour minimum. Roughly $400.
The photographer traveling with your will run between $600 to $800 an hour. Roughly $2,400
Some notes and tips: Driving in the congested downtown area is not recommended during commute hours. Portions of the route may be affected by construction projects. This is not a walking experience. AAA will provide the map for you or most hotels will have the information as well.
